The problem
Moodle does a great deal out of the box and almost never exactly what a specific organisation needs. Bending it without forking it — so security updates still apply — is the actual engineering constraint on any serious LMS project.
How it was built
- Modified existing features and developed custom plugins, extending the platform through Moodle's own extension points rather than patching core.
- Worked in PHP, both object-oriented and procedural, with MySQL and the Moodle framework.
- Treated performance and security as delivery criteria, given that an LMS holds staff records and assessment data.
Result
- A learning platform tailored to the client without abandoning upstream updates.
- Custom plugins extending functionality beyond stock Moodle.
- Scalability and reliability maintained under organisational use.
